After weeks of strategic planning and the management of a large virtual hotel, the online stage of the Institute of Hospitality Business Game Competition 2015 is now complete and the most successful teams have been invited to the final round. Running alongside the annual Passion 4 Hospitality Debating Competition, the live final of the Business Game Competition will take place in London on the 19th March and will see teams compete head-to-head in order to receive the winning title and be awarded a prestigious prize from a Partner of the Institute of Hospitality.
Using the latest version of the HOTS business simulation (Hotel, Operations, Tactics and Strategy), the online heat of the Business Game Competition challenged teams to successfully manage a 125-bedroom virtual hotel situated in Central England for a simulated period of 1 year. Equipped with background information on the hotel and also the previous years’ financial reports, participating teams were required to make successful business decisions across 11 key areas, including human resources, finance and marketing, in order to maximise hotel revenue. The latest version of HOTS extended these decision areas to consider environmental impact, revenue management and also social media strategy.
The live final, being held at the Novotel London West Hotel, will see the teams from Manchester Metropolitan University, Plymouth University, University College Birmingham, Westminster Kingsway College and the 2014 champions; Bournemouth University, all competing for the 2015 business game title.
Also taking place at Passion4Hospitality 2015 is The Hospitality Careers Forum which is open to all hospitality students and professionals to attend to learn about the wealth of hospitality careers and current opportunities available to them with all information coming personally from industry experts. Students who are student affiliate members of the Institute of Hospitality are also entitled to priority bookings for one-to-one sessions with the industry experts.
