Ourย  โ€˜Finance for Hotel General Managersโ€™ course delivered by arena4finance founder, Debra Adams, aims to improve financial knowledge to include how to optimise revenue and profitability, manage capital expenditure and maximise return on investment.

Debra has over 30 years experience of hotel finance training with a background in hospitality, finance and education.

The course includes a review of the summarised hotel profit and loss account and the individual departmental reports with a focus on conversion to gross operating profit and understanding the flow through from optimal revenue. The focus for investors and owners will be discussed, including the importance of maintaining EBITDA.

All examples are based on the recommendations of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).

Each participant will receive a copy of the recently revised third edition of the highly acclaimed bookย  ‘Management Accounting for the Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Industries – A Strategic Approach’ as well as one month subscription to the finance4hospitality academy resources.

Structured into four main topic areas with a focus on the management accounts and operational ratios, the course includes:

1. Deep dive into the hotel P&L account:

  • Explanations of financial terminology
  • Business tactics to manage revenue and costs – from revenue to GOP
  • Flow through and flex calculations
  • Calculation and interpretation of KPIโ€™s for internal and external bench marking
  • Brief overview of the difference between capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational spend

2. More about the Balance Sheet:

  • Assets, liabilities and equity
  • Managing working capital
  • Business financing strategies

3. The importance of Cashflow:

  • Planning for cash requirements
  • Controlling cash & other assets
  • Working capital forecasting
  • Sources of funds to manage liquidity

4. KPIโ€™s to measure performance and benchmarking

  • A range of PAR and POR measures

Session Details

On completion delegates will have the opportunity to complete an online quiz to earn a Certificate of Achievement.
